JAMESTOWN—Cristie Herbst, former editor of The Jamestown Post-Journal and the first woman to hold the position, announced today that she would be supporting Democratic Congressional Candidate Tracy Mitrano (NY-23) in her bid to unseat incumbent Representative Tom Reed.
Herbst served as the editor for the Journal for thirty years, stepping down in 2012. Prior to her tenure as the paper’s editor, she worked as one of its reporters.
Herbst and Mitrano issued a joint statement announcing the endorsement.
“Tracy understands the most important issues affecting the residents of the Southern Tier and Western New York,” Herbst said. “She is a strong, experienced and compassionate leader who will stand for every one of us, her constituents. She supports affordable medical care, improvements in education and bringing to our area the infrastructure we need to attract investors and good jobs. I am endorsing Tracy Mitrano because I know she is the right person at the right time to represent our district.”
“Over her long tenure at the Post-Journal, Herbst made herself a mainstay of this community,” said Mitrano. “Her love for and dedication to Jamestown and the Southern Tier are truly exemplary. It’s an honor to receive her endorsement, and I promise her this: I’m not going to let our community down.”
